I
was fortunate enough to begin working with digitally painted images
when it was necessary to have a very expensive dedicated 'digital
paintbox' image processing computer, and image capture from a
professional video camera with a high resolution component monitor.
The process was very procedural with careful attention to
standards that would have sent many artists around the bend. In fact, by the late 80's I was using 35mm photography
and high resolution analog monitor screens to make computer
painted image enlargements. Twenty years later we can push a button and
have our images turned into hard cover portfolio books or mobile phone
wallpaper.
This collection chronicles my efforts to blur the
boundaries between photo-mechanical and digital processes. I wanted to
create images based on multiple sources so that the idea of an
'image' resisted easy categorization. David Valentine 2008 |
